This product was designed and hand-drawn by our creative director Stacey Lee. We thrifted the fabric from a warehouse that saves textile waste from going to landfill by selling end of roll excess fabrics. Sourcing our fabric this way allows for us to transform waste into new items, rather than creating a product from new materials, thereby conserving resources. We cut and sewed these scarves by hand, ethically in Toronto. Printed sustainably in Toronto using water-based, non toxic inks.
Pictured above is the warehouse where we sourced the fabric that was used to make this item.
"More than 15 million tons of used textile waste is generated each year in the United States, and the amount has doubled over the last 20 years. In 2014, 16.2 million tons of textile waste was generated, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Of this amount, 2.62 million tons were recycled, 3.14 million tons were combusted for energy recovery, and 10.46 million tons were sent to the landfill." source: Rick Leblanc
